WE EXIT YERMO
YERMO?
The name YERMO uses the idea of a wasteland as a visual starting point. This in-house concept turns that empty landscape into a metaphor for a brand looking for a clearer direction. “WE EXIT” gives the idea its movement: leave familiar visual territory and make deliberate choices about how a business presents itself.
This page is a WEY art-direction and identity concept, not a separate company or a client campaign. Its warm sand and bone palette, oversized display lettering, sparse horizon line and animated tumbleweed create a dry, cinematic atmosphere. The landscape is part of the concept’s visual language; it is not intended to suggest that every business should use this style.
The concept also reflects the work WEY offers: website design and development, supported by brand identity and visual design. For a client website, the starting point is the business, audience, content and goals. The design direction should come from those needs rather than copying the YERMO palette or typography. A distinctive site can have a very different mood and still use the same careful approach to hierarchy, responsive layouts and interaction.
Good website design has to do more than establish an atmosphere. Visitors need to understand what the business offers, find relevant information and know what action to take next. Structure and readable content provide that clarity; imagery, type and motion give the experience character. The balance changes with each brief, so the finished website is shaped around its purpose rather than a fixed template.
WE EXIT YERMO / DESIGN NOTES
One concept, carried across the page
The page moves from the name and its metaphor into a visual introduction to the people behind the studio. Oversized lettering gives the opening its scale; compact labels provide context; the spare horizon and tumbleweed bring the landscape into the interface. The combination shows how typography, illustration, motion and layout can work as one art direction rather than as unrelated decoration.
The illustrated figures and playful labels in the team panel belong to this concept’s visual treatment. They are not a complete staff directory, a list of confirmed roles or a set of current job openings. WEY keeps that distinction clear so the concept reads as a piece of creative direction, not as factual company information.
For a client website, the same care starts with different material: the business offer, its audience, content and practical requirements. That brief determines the page structure, visual tone and interactions. WE EXIT YERMO is one expressive studio concept; the live Ubunye website and other work in the Projects and Portfolio pages show different directions shaped around different needs.
